On paper, this was lightest team in terms of real depth that Alberta has had since at least 1997-98! I have been watching Alberta for over 40 years. The Bears had a better, deeper team than UNB last season.alas they lost in OT to UQTR What part of me saying UNB was just better on Sunday.did u not understand? Quick thought: has Alberta ever won without having the most talented team on the ice? Food for thought. Stauffer went on at length about how the team was "rebuilding" (good grief), as if not having an absolutely stacked team was an excuse for not winning. The way that the PEI players tried to follow Alberta into their bench only reinforces to me that the UPEI team was out of control, and Herbers made the right call.ģ) Unrelated to the PEI game. I have no problem with Herbers' decision given what happened in the game. The tone of the game can be very different on the ice than what you can observe from the stands.Ģ) For those waving the "Sportsmanship" flag, it's one thing for the losing team to skate off without shaking hands, but very different for the winning team to do so. He would have a good feel for the game and where it could be heading, and I imagine it had to be pretty bad for him to make that call. Herbers harkened back to the Semi Final game vs USask in 2019 where there was a fight, and wanted to avoid a scene like that, so they made the decision (to get off the ice) with about 5 minutes left in the game.ġ) Herbers has a wealth of experience as a player and coach in some tough loops. In sum, Herbers said that right after Alberta made it 1-0, PEI sent out their Checking Line and started targeting guys, and that continued for the entire game. You can listen to the interview on Spotify.įor those of you interested in Herbers' thought process in the PEI game, it's worth a listen. Stauffer interviewed Ian Herbers on his Oilers Now program yesterday. Took a few rushes in, mostly just chilling in the middle. Landeskog is out here but didn’t participate a ton. Stay tuned to CHN for another update on the rest of the injured crew, as I’ll have something else up later today on them. Take a look at some video from Landeskog this morning with the team. Still seems like he’s a ways off from getting there. With comments like that, I wouldn’t expect to see Landeskog with the team often until he’s closer to returning to the lineup, whenever that is. He’ll be working on his own for quite a while.” “Slow and steady,” Bednar said on his recovery. The few rushes he did take, he was still moving gingerly.īut any progress is progress at this point.Īfter skate, Head Coach Jared Bednar had an update on Landeskog and where he’s at in his return. He came out about 10 minutes before skate started, and only lasted about 10 minutes into the skate. Whenever he took the puck in, you could hear his teammates cheering. The Captain, who still looked like a guy who is a ways away from returning, took part in only a few drills. You could see the smiles from everyone on the ice for the Colorado Avalanche on Monday morning. Not just for the fans, but for his teammates as well. While Gabriel Landeskog is still a ways off in his return from injury, it was a welcome sight to see him at morning skate.
